How DTG Printing Works

1. Garment Pretreatment

Apply pretreatment solution to the fabric and heat-press dry. This ensures ink adhesion and color vibrancy on dark garments.

2. Color Separation & RIP

RIP software separates artwork into white underbase and CMYK layers, generating print data for the Epson printheads.

3. Garment Positioning

Flatten the garment on the platen. The infrared positioning system ensures accurate registration every time.

4. White Ink Base Layer

Printer lays down a white ink underbase first. This creates a bright canvas on dark fabrics to make colors pop.

5. CMYK Color Printing

Color layer is printed directly on top. 4 printheads deliver fine droplets for photo-quality detail.

6. Heat Curing

Final heat press at 160°–170°C for 60–90 seconds. The ink bonds with the fibers for wash-resistant prints.

DTG Printer FAQ

What fabrics are compatible with DTG printing?

DTG printers are optimized for natural fibers. For the brightest and most durable prints, we highly recommend 100% cotton. Cotton-poly blends (like 80/20 or 60/40) also work beautifully as long as the fabric is at least 60% cotton.

Do I always need to use pretreatment liquid?

Yes, if you are printing on dark garments that require a white ink base layer, pretreatment is absolutely essential. It acts as a primer, preventing the white ink from soaking into the fabric. For light garments (CMYK ink only), pretreatment is optional but recommended to increase wash-fastness.

Is DTG printer maintenance difficult?

Not with Fujia’s systems! The most common issue with DTG is white ink clogging. Our printers come equipped with an automatic White Ink Circulation system that constantly keeps the ink moving, reducing maintenance to a simple daily nozzle check and quick wiper cleaning.

What is the average print cost per shirt?

The ink cost is extremely competitive. An average A4-sized full-color print on a light garment costs around $0.20 – $0.35 USD. A print on a dark garment (which requires white ink) typically costs between $0.50 – $0.80 USD depending on ink coverage.
