Logic 1: Choose the Right Bag Printing Process for Your Material

DTF, DTG, and Sublimation are fundamentally different printing technologies. Each excels on specific bag materials. Understand the process, then choose your machine.

DTF heat transfer process for custom tote bag printing — peeling PET film off canvas bag revealing vibrant design

DTF (Direct-to-Film)

How It Works:

Print your design onto a PET film using CMYK + white ink, apply hot-melt adhesive powder, cure, then heat-press transfer onto the bag fabric. The ink sits on top of the fiber with a flexible, elastic bond.

Best For: Canvas tote bags, polyester drawstring bags, cotton backpacks, dark-colored bags, multi-material accessories.

Key Advantage: Prints on virtually any bag fabric — canvas, cotton, polyester, nylon, blends. No pretreatment needed. Deep black and vivid colors on dark bags. The flexible film withstands the flexing and folding that bags endure daily.

DTG printhead printing directly on organic cotton tote bag — custom bag printing solutions with soft breathable finishtration

DTG (Direct-to-Garment)

How It Works:

Spray water-based textile ink directly onto the bag fabric. The ink penetrates deep into the cotton fibers, creating a bond that becomes part of the textile itself. No film, no transfer — just direct, breathable printing.

Best For: Premium cotton tote bags, organic cotton shoppers, high-end branded merchandise bags, eco-friendly bag lines.

Key Advantage: The softest hand-feel in the industry. Zero plastic touch. Ink breathes with the fabric — ideal for premium cotton bags where brand positioning demands luxury quality and eco-conscious consumers demand natural finishes.

Sublimation heat transfer process for custom drawstring bag printing — peeling paper off polyester fabric with zero hand-feel

Sublimation

How It Works:

Print sublimation ink onto transfer paper, then apply heat and pressure. The ink turns from solid to gas (sublimates) and permanently bonds with polyester molecules inside the bag fabric. The ink literally becomes part of the fiber.

Best For: Polyester drawstring bags, sport backpacks, polyester tote bags, laptop sleeves, polyester pouches, full-wrap seamless bag designs.

Key Advantage: Zero hand-feel — you cannot feel the print at all. Never cracks, never peels, never fades. Full-bleed edge-to-edge designs wrapping around the entire bag. Only works on polyester or high-polyester blends (60%+), and only on white or light-colored fabrics.

Print Effect on Different Bag Types

See how each process performs on the three most common bag material categories. This is what your customers will see and feel.

DTF custom bag printing result — canvas tote bag with vibrant opaque geometric design

Canvas & Heavy Cotton Bags

DTF: The go-to choice for canvas tote bags. Vibrant, opaque prints on any canvas color. The flexible film handles the folding, stuffing, and daily abuse that tote bags endure. No pretreatment — print and press in minutes.

DTG: Excellent for premium organic cotton bags where soft-touch quality matters. Ink sinks into the canvas for a natural, breathable finish. Slower than DTF and requires pretreatment on dark canvas.

Sublimation: Will not bond to pure cotton canvas. Only works on poly-canvas blends with 60%+ polyester — and even then, colors appear muted on natural canvas tones. Not recommended for standard canvas bags.

Sublimation custom bag printing result — polyester drawstring bag with seamless full-color gradient designgn

Polyester Bags & Backpacks

DTF: Can print on polyester bags, but the film layer adds slight texture and the design area is limited by heat-press size. Works for small logos but not ideal for full-wrap bag designs.

DTG: Poor adhesion on pure polyester. Ink sits on the surface and rubs off over time. Not recommended for polyester bag applications.

Sublimation: The only correct choice for polyester bags. Ink gasifies and bonds permanently with polyester molecules. Full-wrap, edge-to-edge photographic designs covering the entire bag. Zero hand-feel. Survives years of washing and abrasion. The print outlasts the bag.

DTG custom bag printing result — premium cotton shopper bag with soft watercolor botanical design

Premium Cotton & Eco Bags

DTF: Bold, vivid prints on any cotton color. Slightly rubbery hand-feel. Excellent for promotional cotton bags where visual impact matters more than softness. Fast production speed.

DTG: The gold standard for premium cotton bags. Ink penetrates fibers — zero plastic feel. Eco-conscious brands and luxury retailers demand this natural finish. The print breathes with the cotton, maintaining the organic texture that premium customers pay for.

Sublimation: Will not bond to 100% cotton. Not viable for pure cotton eco bags. Only an option if the bag is a poly-cotton blend with 60%+ polyester content.

Quick Decision: Canvas or dark bags? → Go DTF. Premium cotton eco bags? → Go DTG. Polyester bags & full-wrap designs? → Go Sublimation. Mixed bag materials? → Go DTF. Many bag brands run all three.

Logic 2: Custom Bag Printing Setups by Business Volume

Do not overspend or bottleneck your growth. Choose your capacity.

Level 1: The Tote Bag Shop

Ideal Volume: 10–50 bags/day (custom print shop or Etsy store)

Recommended Solution: 1x A3 DTF Printer + Mini Shaker, OR 1x A3 Sublimation Printer.

Start with the process that matches your best-selling bag. Printing canvas totes? Begin with DTF. Printing polyester drawstring bags? Begin with sublimation. Compact desktop footprint, standard AC power, and 3-day remote onboarding get you shipping custom bag orders within a week. Test your market before scaling.

Level 2: The Bag Brand

Ideal Volume: 200–1,000+ bags/day (full-time online bag brand)

Recommended Solution: 60cm DTF (2-4 Printheads) + 60cm Sublimation Printer.

Cover both canvas and polyester with two machines. DTF handles canvas totes, cotton bags, dark fabrics, and multi-material accessories. Sublimation handles polyester drawstring bags, sport backpacks, and full-wrap seamless designs. Bulk ink tanks cut per-print cost by 60%. One operator runs both lines — DTF prints while sublimation transfers cure. Double the product catalog without doubling the labor.

Level 3: The Full-Service Bag Factory

Ideal For: Brands producing across all bag materials — canvas, cotton, polyester, and premium eco lines.

Combo Solution: 1x DTF Printer + 1x DTG Printer + 1x Sublimation Printer.

Three machines, three technologies, unlimited product range. DTF for versatile canvas and blend bags. DTG for premium skin-contact cotton bags with luxury soft-touch. Sublimation for polyester bags and full-wrap seamless designs. Fulfill any bag order from one workshop. Corporate gifting, eco brands, sport brands — you say yes to everything. One supplier, one shipment, one quality standard.

Reliable Custom Bag Printing Machines: The Zero-Clog Printhead System

White ink maintenance is the biggest headache in DTF and DTG printing. Our machines are engineered to keep you printing, not cleaning.

AUTO CIRCULATION

White Ink Auto-Stirring

Built-in circulation system stirs white ink every 4 hours, preventing titanium dioxide settling — the #1 cause of clogged printheads in DTF and DTG.

SMART CAPping

Auto-Capping Station

When idle, the printhead automatically seals against a wet capping station to prevent ink from drying in the nozzles overnight or over weekends.

FLASH MAINTENANCE

3-Minute Daily Routine

One-button automatic cleaning cycle. No disassembly, no messy syringes. 3 minutes in the morning, and you are ready to print all day.

Built for Daily Use: Abrasion & Durability Specs

Bags face daily abrasion, washing, sun exposure, and heavy loading. Our prints are tested to survive real-world bag wear.

Custom bag printing durability test — DTF printed canvas tote bag after 50 machine washes with minimal fading

50+ Washes

DTF and DTG prints certified for 50+ heavy-duty machine washes without fading, cracking, or peeling. Bag laundry tested.

Custom bag printing durability test — DTF printed backpack fabric under extreme flex with no cracking

Extreme Flex

Zero Cracking. DTF’s flexible hot-melt film withstands the constant folding, stuffing, and flexing that bags endure daily at stress points.

Custom bag printing permanence test — sublimation ink bonded into polyester fabric resisting abrasion without color transfer

Permanent Bond

Sublimation ink becomes part of the polyester fiber at the molecular level. It will never crack, peel, or fade — the print outlasts the bag itself.

Success Stories: How We Solve Real Problems

Custom tote bag printing manufacturer case study — botanical DTF prints on canvas bags for indie brand

Case 1: The Tote Bag Brand

Problem: An Etsy seller offered custom-printed canvas tote bags. They outsourced screen printing — 2-week lead times, high minimums, and color inconsistencies between batches killed repeat orders. Dark-colored canvas bags were simply not possible.

Our Solution: We deployed a 60cm dual-printhead DTF printer with ICC profiles tuned for canvas and cotton substrates. One machine now handles dark canvas, cotton, and blended fabrics with consistent color from batch to batch.

Result: Lead time dropped from 2 weeks to same-day. Dark canvas totes became their best-selling category. Monthly output reached 1,500+ bags at 65% gross margin, and wholesale orders from boutique retailers tripled.

Custom drawstring bag printing manufacturer case study — sublimation full-wrap prints for sports brand study

Case 2: The Sport Bag Brand

Problem: A sport bag brand needed full-wrap photographic designs on polyester drawstring bags and backpacks. Their existing heat-transfer vinyl could only do small logos — no full-bleed designs, and the vinyl cracked and peeled within months.

Our Solution: We deployed a 60cm sublimation printer paired with a calendar heat press. Full-wrap edge-to-edge photographic designs now wrap around entire bags. The ink bonds permanently with polyester — zero cracking, zero peeling.

Result: The brand launched a custom team bag line — every school and club could get their own full-color design. Average order value doubled. The permanent print quality eliminated all warranty claims for peeling and fading.

Workspace Checklist: What You Need to Start

Perfect for small businesses and workshop startups. Here is exactly what you need to run our setups safely and efficiently.

  • Ventilation & Exhaust: DTF and DTG printers include built-in air purifiers. Sublimation produces minimal odor — standard room ventilation is sufficient. No complex outdoor exhaust piping required for desktop setups.
  • Climate Control: Optimal performance requires a stable room temperature of 20-28°C (68-82°F) and 45-60% humidity. Bag fabric printing is sensitive to humidity swings — keep it stable.
  • Power Supply: Standard AC 110V/220V plug-and-play options available depending on your country. No expensive 3-phase wiring needed for Level 1 & 2 setups.
  • Heat Press: DTF and sublimation both require a heat press. Flat heat press for tote bags and standard bags. Large-format calendar press for full-wrap sublimation on backpacks and large bags.
  • Workspace Size: Level 1 (desktop): 4m² minimum. Level 2 (dual machine): 15m². Level 3 (factory line): 40m²+ including heat press and curing area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose DTF, DTG, or Sublimation for my bag business?

It depends on your bag material and product focus. DTF is the most versatile — it prints on canvas, cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, and dark fabrics. DTG is best for premium skin-contact cotton bags where softness and eco-quality matter. Sublimation is the only choice for polyester bags and full-wrap seamless designs — it produces zero hand-feel prints that never fade. Many bag brands run two or three machines to cover every product category.

Do you provide training for beginners?

Yes. Our 3-day remote onboarding program is designed for complete beginners. Day 1 covers unboxing and hardware setup over video call. Day 2 walks through RIP software installation and ICC color profiles via remote desktop. Day 3 guides your first print from start to finish. After onboarding, you have lifetime access to our WhatsApp engineering support group.

How durable are DTF prints on bags that get daily use?

Both DTF and DTG prints are tested to withstand 50+ industrial wash cycles without fading, cracking, or peeling. The flexible DTF film handles the constant folding, stuffing, and abrasion that bags endure daily. Sublimation prints on polyester are permanently bonded at the molecular level — they will never crack or fade, regardless of wash count or wear.

Can I print on dark-colored bags?

DTF handles dark fabrics perfectly — the white ink underbase provides full opacity on black canvas, dark cotton, and colored polyester blends. DTG can also print on dark cotton with pretreatment. Sublimation only works on white or very light-colored polyester — the ink is transparent and cannot produce white.

What is your shipping and warranty policy?
